Biomod is an annual biomolecular design competition started at Harvard University by Sean Douglas. In 2017 I was a member of the UNSW Sydney Team, Capsid Constructors, and the competition was held at University of San Francisco. California. We investigated nanoscale biological self-assembly by way of studying the structure and formation of Human Immunodeficiency Virus 1 (HIV). We produced recombinant HIV capsid proteins and used DNA Origami to scaffold HIV viral capsid assembly via protein-DNA conjugation chemistry, testing using Small Angle X-ray Scattering, surface plasmon resonance, electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy.
For our work we were awarded the grand prize for 2017.
